Dzień drugi rozpoczęliśmy rano śniadaniem w hostelu. Takie sobie… Po śniadaniu szybko się zebraliśmy, wymeldowaliśmy i już o 9:40 jechaliśmy autobusem 304 do Wieliczki. Dla wszystkich co by chcieli tam jechać — 304 to najwygodniejsze połączenie i jeździ często.

W kopalni spędziliśmy sporo czasu. Prawie trzy godziny. Ostatni raz tam byłem gdy kopalnia była nieczynna od niedawna (pod koniec 1997). Teraz już jest wyłącznie obiektem turystycznym i przez te 14 lat sporo się zmieniło, chyba na lepsze.

Po powrocie udaliśmy się na obiad do milutkiej knajpki z ukraińskim jedzeniem na Kanoniczej. Można tam jeść – dobre!

Podobno średnio statystycznie w kopalni bywa się trzy razy w życiu. To był mój trzeci ale myślę, że jeszcze tam kiedyś pojadę.

Dalej zdążyliśmy jeszcze pójść na wystawę prac japońskiego artysty　歌川国芳　〔うたがわくによし〕 (Utagawa Kuniyoshi). Bardzo ciekawa wystawa, trwa do końca stycznia.

Sztuka japońska jest całkowicie odmienna od europejskiej. Trudno jest ją zrozumieć bo zazwyczaj nie znamy kontekstu kulturowego. Na szczęście wszystkie prace są bardzo skrupulatnie opisane i wyjaśniają szczegóły przedstawionej historii. Szkoda, że nie robią tak w naszych muzeach. Czasami fajnie byłoby wiedzieć więcej…

Powrót:

Tym razem wracaliśmy InterRego — to był mój pierwszy raz. Byłem mocno zdziwiony. Takim pociągiem to ja dojeżdżałem do szkoły! Ale koniec końców nie było źle choć od włączonego ogrzewania było tak ciepło, że gdyby postawić szklankę z wodą na grzejniku to by się pewnie zagotowała. Przy okazji ugotował się Mithnae i wrócił do domu z gorączką.

Przejazd z Warszawy EIC Kościuszko — udany, w komfortowych warunkach, wagon bez przedziałów a miejsca na nogi tyle, że mógłbym mieć śmiało jeszcze 20 cm wzrostu więcej.

Zatrzymaliśmy się z Mithnae w Hostelu Brama, niemal w samym rynku. Całkiem niezłe miejsce jak na swoja cenę.

Cel główny wyjazdu — Muzeum Narodowe, wystawa prac Williama Turnera.

Wystawa jak wystawa ale warunki w muzeum — żenada. W szatni smród, ceny biletów jak cie mogę ale jak się kupuje bilet na całe muzeum, to dostaje się płachtę, na której potem opiekun wystawy, przy wejściu, musi się parafować z datą — zalatuje średniowieczem. Ale to jeszcze mało. Audioguide — płatny i do tego pod zastaw (!!!) dokumentu. Ciekawe czemu w na takim Museums Insel w Berlinie dają ci takiego za darmo (w cenie biletu) i nie musisz dawać nic w zastaw?… smutno, że u nas cywilizacja normalności wciąż w powijakach.

No ale zwiedzamy. Najpierw Turner. Audioguide działa. Jak już się nazwiedzaliśmy to poszliśmy na wystawą stałą. Audioguide też ją obejmuje. Żeby go przełączyć na inną salę trzeba wpisać magiczny kod, który go rebootuje, i można wybrać inną wystawę. Działał, ale trzeba było go zwyczajnie posłuchać od początku do końca bo gabloty nie oznaczone a narracja chaotyczna, więc się biega po sali wte i wewte.

To samo w sali z bronią. Tam chociaż można było sobie zrobić zdjęcie :)

Potem jeszcze zdążyliśmy do sukiennic. Tam audioguide też płatny ale już nie pod zastaw. Za to tam jeszcze dostaje się iPhone’a z fikuśną aplikacją, która wyświetla historyjki dotyczące wybranych obrazów. No i iPhone był pod zastaw — to jeszcze jestem w stanie zrozumieć bo to w pełnie funkcjonalny telefon i możnaby chcieć go ukraść.

Teraz wybieramy się do krakowskiej pedalarni — Kokonu.

Jutro — Wieliczka.

I started with this series by buying first 4 books because of “buy two get third free” deal in a bookshop (in Glasgow). I hardly knew anything about it. I heard that there was a HBO production on the A Game of Thrones but never saw it. A very nice girl at the register asked me ‘You’ve seen the move, haven’t you?’ and when I said that I have not she was a bit surprised. I actually heard people talking about the TV version and that it was good so I risked spending almost £50.

So I started reading. At first I found it a bit difficult to follow with so many people, places and mythology. The more I read the easier it became and after half of the first book I could understand who is who.

I found it relay good read. Demanding but good. I also watched the TV version and found it utterly incomprehensible (I don’t really understand why people judged it good) and was happy to have read it first.

Now I’m impatiently waiting on a paperback of A Dance with Dragons

I don’t really know why I wanted to watch this. Guess I was bored and had to do something. I’m sick again and on vacation (yes, not on a sick leave) so I have plenty of time… anyway… I watched it, alone, by boyfriend didn’t want to join.

So… this movie is anything that you might expect of a prequel (I have not seen the Planet of Apes remake of 2001) — has barely anything to do with the original but the apes. It’s enough to say that it all happens on Earth… other than that is fairly typical Sci-Fi that concludes with possible extinction of the human race due to a deadly virus/vaccine/medicine/whatever you can think of.

The story itself in neither surprising nor boring so it’s easy to watch and you really need to spend 1h40″ doing something you can spend it on this. But surely there are better movies.

I’d give it no more than 2.5 of 5 if I had to score it.

This movie is about love, about heroes, about war and about Great Britain of that time. But the hero is not of the usual kind. It’s a not-so-regular but nevertheless regular though wealthy lady who, recently widowed, has an idea to open a theater. But not a regular one – something very new and provocative. On the verge of being banned by the censorship.

I hate spoilers so I will not write more – see for yourself. You won’t regret it.

Zachciało nam się z M zjeść sushi. W Warszawa jest cała masa miejsc do wyboru. Ja na razie chodzimy w różne miejsca, często przypadkowe. Jak dotąd nie byliśmy jeszcze w sushiGo ale udało nam się zaliczyć większe suszarnie warszawskie.

Jak na razie bezkonkurencyjne jest Yokozuna Sushi, które można znaleźć w bardzo niepozornym miejscu, na Woli, na ulicy Sokołowskiej

Następna w kolejności jakości, aczkolwiek nieco droższa, jest restauracja Nippon-kan (日本館). Poza sushi oferują również niesamowity wybór kuchni azjatyckiej (niestety bez 100zł nie podchodź ale warto!).

Dosyć zawiedzeni byliśmy po wizycie w Hana-sushi (drogo i mało) – żarcie też średnie.

Przypadkiem trafiliśmy do “chińczyka” na Placu Bankowym, a dokładnie na Tłomackie. Jest to nieco droższy chińczyk w stylu restauracyjnym ale dają tema też sushi, które jest stosunkowo niedrogie i dobre.

Dziś byliśmy w Kiku (plac Teatralny). Niestety – kolejne rozczarowanie; drogo (znacznie drożej niż NipponKan), mały wybór, średnia jakość. Zdecydowanie nie polecamy.

Czy ktoś może polecić jeszcze jakieś dobre miejsce?

I wrote before about things that may surprise, now about something funny.

Cincinnati used to be known as Porkopolis (see here and here). A couple years ago, many of Cincity companies had some fun and put lots of statues of flying pigs all around the town. Prior to my visit there I found this story somewhere on the net. So… first time I go there I go hunting. Sadly I come back empty-handed. I even asked some people and they didn’t seem to have any idea where I could find at leas one of those statues.

So I come back and go google the damn thing again. Turns out I’m blind. I kinda walked on one and didn’t notice. I also asked around some more. Turned out that there ain’t much left. Just a couple. Next week I went again and fund the one I was looking for.

And now, since I woke on Saturday up 7 am (GMT+5) and didn’t sleep much until now (9 pm GMT+1) it’s time for me to finally go and hit the sheets!

America turned out to be a bit disappointing. To be fair – yes they have big cars, big houses, big ……., but thats all folks. I live near Cincinnati, OH – that is a city not much smaller than Warsaw. This city on weekdays is supposed to have some life on weekend it’s as if nobody lived there! Thanks to gay community being friendly and helpful I spent today with Jürgen who lives here (he’s German) . We were the only people walking thru the streets. I barely noticed any traffic! Can you believe it?

This is another thing about US people – they don’t walk, they drive. And this is taken to the extreme – most suburbs don’t even have any sidewalks!

Another disappointment – coffee. This shit they make you here and call it coffee would never, ever qualify as drinkable substance in Europe! One would think than a coffee-drinking nation would have some better coffee. NO! Forget it.

Let’s go to surprises that one may stumble upon when coming here for the first time.

My baggage got delayed, thus I was entitled to buy some stuff. I went to Macy’s – a big clothing department store. What does one need when one doesn’t have clothes – underwear, some t-shit, or shirt. I started with underwear. Going by EU standard I wear XL. Nothing special. So having in mind that in US everything is bigger I go for size L. Take one off the box and….. judging by the looks of it this somewhere near the EU XXL size. Somewhat confused I go for lower sizes. With some effort I determined I need S. (a was really afraid I would have to go to the teenager section to find correct size) . In the end I didn’t buy I.

Then a shirt. Again lets try size L. Naah — two of me would fit inside (and I’m not that slim as I used to much more of a regular size now.) Finally I found good size – this time size M.  Funny thing. Did you ever try to by a short in Poland? It always comes whit a gazillion of needles and they won’t let you unpack it if you don’t buy it. Here things work different “you’re welcome to unpack it”  and there is usually some place where you can pin the needles so that they don’t hurt anybody (or you).  Naturally don’t have to buy it.

Great thing about this time of year is that you get discounts everywhere 60% off, 50% off, 40% off. I have already bought clothing worth $150 for about $60. That’s a great shopping opportunity! And I’m gonna bring some more.

Z niewiadomych mi przyczyn pierwszy sezon podzielono na dwie części (najwyraźniej przerwa wakacyjna czy cóś). Treściowo świetne, szczególnie że ja uwielbiam muzikale (dzięki Passerau za cynk o serialu). Pierwsza część sezonu mała treść i świetni się oglądało. Druga część (od odcinka 14) nie miała już treści niestety. Autorzy postanowili wykorzystać popularność jaką zdobył serial i pójść całkowicie pod publikę i zdobyć możliwe szeroką widownię. Jak zawsze ucierpiała treść. Ale muzycznie przybyło na jakości, więc mam ambiwalentne uczucia ;/

Sezon drugi jakiś czas temu się skończy (a w zasadzie część pierwsza). W tym sezonie autorzy przyjęli regułę odcinków tematycznych. Niestety treściowo tendencja spadkowa się utrzymuje, muzykalnie jednak jest wciąż OK. Jeśli lubisz musicale oraz to co w USA nazywa się High School Drama – to warto obejrzeć.
